The Invae are a type of spirit in the Fourth World.

Nature

In the travel journal of Tomas Runecarver, he makes note of the invae as a type of spirit, though understood as Horrors are a seperate kind of astral entity, native to astral space. Namegivers are of interest to these spirits, as they are the vehicle by which they can access the physical world. Though the means of infestation are unknown, once it has begun, the spirit transforms the host in only a few days. Once the spirit fully possesses their victim, they are in full control of them and nothing of their previous personality remains, though they may have access to their hosts original memories.

Elementalists and Nethermancers are known to be able to banish these spirts, but it is difficult to do so.

Demeanor

Invae come in two forms. The first appears as a Namegiver, but with insectoid features, which is in fact a possessed person. Rarily, they are found in their second appearance is like common insects of the physical world, but of enhanced size.

History

The invae are considered to be harbingers of the Scourge, appearing before magic levels raise to a level to allow greater Horrors access to the physical world.

Several encounters with this type of spirit are documented by Tomas:

  • An encounter in Scytha, where massive beetles were found, from the size of dogs to draft horses.
  • The Hooded Ones are known to conduct research on this variety of spirit in Thurdane.
